Anorak's Almanac is a book written by James Donovan Halliday. It is made up of various undated journal entries from Halliday's personal life concerning his interests in the videogames, films, music, and pop culture references of the 1980s. It was made available on Halliday's personal website, where it could be downloaded as a PDF file. Parzival once printed a physical copy of the book in his hideout on an old printer he had salvaged.

Of what value is it to "just believe"?
Of what value is it to "just believe"? We are not going to have evidence for everything, but why should that matter? What matters is that you don't give in! What matters is that you don't let them win? They want to oppress you! They want to take away your monuments and culture! They have science and reason on their side! What do we have? We have nothing at all but hope! What is hope? Can you eat hope? Can you drink hope? Can you bathe in hope? If what value is it to keep holding onto hope? If what value is it to not give into an unthinking, uncaring machine? Why is this question even coming up? If what value is it to hope, when all around you says that your culture is not worth anything, when you everybody tells you that you do not know anything at all about anything? No body listens! Nobody can ever listen! Since when does any of that matter? Why should it matter how many of them there are? Why should it matter how few of us there are? What matters is that all is lost, but hope still endures! Hope always endures! That is why it it is important to not give up! That is why one must just believe!
